Jan Bernet is a London based visual artist from Zurich, Switzerland. He has been documenting London’s streets and night life
through his photography for the past 9 years.
For his practice in street photography he has been developing a stochastic approach to image making which opens space for serendipitous
compositions. With his technique he is allowing access to a state in which circumstances happen naturally without having to look for them.
‘‘The key lies in absorbing the energies around me with a non-judgmental mind and to reach a state of non-seeking but attracting -
making the actual photo by pressing the shutter is just one part of the method but not the initial intent’’
When moments emerge, he usually shoots from the hip using a phone camera, typically not looking through the viewfinder
whilst semi-subconsciously handling the tool. With this unrevealed presence he is able to synergise with the natural flow,
leaving crucial space for the process to unfold.
Exhibitions in Zurich and London.
